4/6/08 - A Perfect Destiny - by Shakes
The Jaguars finished with only 2 wins in the first season.3 seasons later they were in the big game of EFL BOWL IV versus a team looking to make some history of their own. The Philadelphia Eagles with a win could become the first team ever to finish the preseason, regular season, and the post season undefeated. That would put their record at 23-0. The Jags started the game driving down before Brady Quinn fumbled at the Eagles 34. The Eagles could not take advantage and later fumbled themselves on a later 1st quarter drive. The defenses for both teams were spectactular in the first quarter. The game was at a stalemate after the first quarter. Just before the half, the Eagles finally got on the board when 4 time League MVP Donovan McNabb hit backup TE Kris Wilson with a 7 yard touchdown to make it 7-0 at the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Eagles finally strung together a long drive that ended in points. The drive went 12 plays for 68 yards, lasting almost 7 minutes off the clock culminating in a 5 yard touchdown pass to TE LJ Smith. After a 3 and out, the Eagles got a field goal from David Green Akers from 25 yards out to make it 17-0. Right afterwards, it looked like the Jags would get on the board as they went on an 11 play drive of their own. However Austin Murphy's 51 yard field goal missed wide right. The Jags could not recover from the miss. After a 3 and out from Philly, Brady Quinn got sandwiched between Broderick Bunkley and Jevon Kearse. Quinn fumbled and Norm Schroeder recovered at the Jags 1 yard line. 2 plays later, Jermiah White did the rest as he pounded the ball in to make it a 24-0 Eagles lead. The defense did the rest as Jevon Kearse, Mike Patterson Broederick Bunkley, Darren Howard, and Lito Sheppard all got a piece of Brady Quinn who been sacked 6 times on the day. Kearse was named DPOW and McNabb was named Super Bowl MVP for the 3rd time in 4 years. Mcnabb finished with 236 yards and 2 TDS on 21 of 25 passing to help complete the perfect season for the Eagles as the Eagles become the first dynasty in the EFL.

4/2/08 - 4th quarter blunder - by Shakes
The Eagles were back in familiar territory as they were in the NFC CHampionship game for the 4th consecutive season. Back at home, their opponent this time was a tough Carolina Panthers team in which Philly beat earlier in the season 27-17. The two best NFC teams fought a tough war just like before. League MVP Donovan McNabb got things started when he hit Reggie Brown for a 15 yard score to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead. That lead was was increased to 10-0 when David Green Akers connected with a 37 yard field goal. But the Panthers fought back. First Steve Smith caught a 26 yard touchdown to close the lead backi to 3. Then rookie running back Robbie Ritt ran for a 6 yard score to make it 14-10 Carolina. David Akers connected a 2nd time just before the half from 28 yards to make it 14-13. Early in the 3rd quarter, Akers put the Eagles back on top with a 46 yard field goal. At 16-14, the Panthers Jake Delhomme hit Keary Colbert for a 13 yard score to make it 21-16 with only a 4th quarterleft to play. The Eagles tried mercissly to get the go ahead score. Late in the 4th quarter, Philly got his wish. Robbie Ritt who fumbled twice earlier in the game fumbled with just 2 1/2 minutes left. The Panthers then learned to never give a second chance to Donovan McNabb. 1 play after McNabb connected with Hank Baskett for 45 yards, McNabb hit backup TE Kris Wilson for a 3 yard score. After a 2 pt conversion the Panthers had a shot to perform a little magic of their own but Delhomme threw a ball right into the hands of CB Sheldon Brown. The Eagles wuld be forced to punt but the Panthers had only 22 seconds to move back into field goal position from their own 9. It wasnt meant to be and the Eagles return to the Super Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 years and a shot of history.

4/2/08 - Antonio's Dominance - by Shakes
During the inception of the EFL, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland combined for 6 wins. Jemarcus Russell and Brady Quinn ended up being the quarterbacks of the teams. Quinn being the #1 draft pick of the very first draft faced a player who had to watch as his team won the whole thing last season. The Jags started things off when place kicker Austin Murphy connected from 45 yards out. Jad Dean responded with a 38 yard field goal to tie the game at 3 after the 1st quarter. Brady Quinn then threw a costly pick as he threw an interception to Chris Quezada. Quezada returned the interception for a 76 yard touchdown to give the defending champs a 10-3 lead. Austin Muprhy connected again with a 26 yard field goal to make it 10-6. Jad Dean put it back to a touchdown lead when he put a 19 yard chipshot through to make it 13-6 at the half. But the story of this game was WR Antonio Bryant. Only catching 4 balls, he had 134 yards on the night. Half of that was a 67 yard touchdown to tie the game at 13-13. The Browns then got a rushing touchdown form Reggie Bush to make it 20-13. But Antonio Bryant caught a 37 yard touchdown to again tie the score at 20-20. FB Lawrence Vickers made a costly fumble and the Jags took advantage when Austin Murphy connected for the 3rd time of the day. This time it was a 27 yard field goal. Then Josh Brothers fumbled the kickoff to give the Jags the ball back. Adrian Peterson handed it right back to the Browns but Jemarcus Russell was not able to guide the Browns down the field to give the Jags their first ever Super Bowl birth in a 23-20 win.

3/30/08 - Peeling off a Victory - by Shakes
The Carolina Panthers faced off against St Louis in the Divisional matchup. The defensive game started when St Louis place kicker Jay Feely hit a 34 yard field goal to make it 3-0. The Panthers responded when the Fat Dwarf Robbie Ritt ponded a 1 yard run in for a touchdown. That gave the the Panthers a 7-3 lead. Herb Foley then provided a chip shot 19 yard field goal to make it 10-3. The Rams responded by first getting another field goal from Jay Feely, this time from 21yards out. Then their running back Steven Jackson got an 8 yard TD reception from Marc Bulger to make it 13-10 St Louis. Herb Foley got a key 39 yard field goal to tie the game up in the 3rd quarter at 13 a piece. Jake Delhomme who was relatively quiet for most of the day hit TE Justin Peel for a 26 yard touchdown to give the Panthers a 20-13 lead in the 4th quarter. The Rams would get the ball back with 9 1/2 minutes to go. Bulger moved his Rams down for the tying score. However, Chris Gamble got a key interception in Carolina territory to give the ball back to Carolina. The Panthers would then run out the clock to preserve the 20-13 win and move to a familiar place for the NFC Championship, in Philly to face Donovan McNabb and the Eagles.

3/30/08 - Quinns responsibilty - by Shakes
The Jaguars waited for there divisional matchup as the Bengals knocked off the Chargers. The Bengals who have been Bowl bound before looked to do it again. Austin Murphy hit a 46 yard field goal to open the scoring at 3-0. Marty Booker caught an 8 yard touchdown pass to make it 10-0 Jags and it looked like they were on there way. The Bengals however woke up after the first quarter and Carson Palmer hit Chris Henry for a 30 yard TD pass to make it 10-7 Jags. The Jags and Bengals traded touchdown passes midway through the rd quarter. First it Brady Quinn hitting Madison Hedgecock for a 31 yard score to make it 17-7. Then it was Carson Palmer hitting TJ Houshmandzadeh for a 5 yard score to make it 17-14 Jags. Austin Murphy hit a 34 yard field goal to make it 20-14 Jags. A few minutes into the 4th quarter, Dominick Davis ran for a 2 yard touchdown to give Cincy their first lead of the game at 21-20. But this night belong to Brady Quinn as just 4 minutes later, he hit Marcedes Lewis for a 63 yard touchdown to make it 26-21. The Jags went for 2 and Quinn hit Antonio Bryant to make it 28-21. The Bengals had one last shot with 2 1/2 minutes left. Carson Palmer got it to the Jags 33. He then made a 17 yard completion to TJ Houshmandzadeh. However when he was tackled, TJ didnt have the ball. It was in the hands of safety Deon Grant as the Jags move on to face the Cleveland Browns for the AFC CHampionship.

3/30/08 - Rolling Along - by Shakes
One thing you have learned in the past 3 seasons is that this Mcnabb guy is good. His Eagles faced an upstart Packers team who won 8 of their last 9 games. The Packers got things started when Brandon Pace bombed a 50 yard field goal through to make it 3-0. It was the last time they had the lead the entire game. 5 minutesd after the field goal, Donovan McNabb hit Travis Taylor for a 2 yard touchdown. Minutes later, the two connected again when McNabb hit Taylor for a 5 yard touchdown pass. David Akers hit a 21 yard field goal to make it 17-3. Then Mcnabb hit WR Jeremy Bloom for a 7 yard touchdown pass to make it 24-3. The 2nd half was more of the same. First Akers hit his 2nd field goal, this time from 33 yards out, to make it 27-3. Then Jeremy White who had a great year for the injured Brian Westbrook, ran for a 5 yard score. That made it 34-3. Jerious Norwood got a 7 yard touchdown run to make it 34-10 but then Ryan Moats got a 5 yard touchdown run himself to close the game out at 41-10. The Eagles go on to meet a tough Carolina Panthers team in the NFC Championship.

3/30/08 - 4th quarter magic for Cleveland - by Shakes
The Browns went back and looked like their last years counterpart in their game vs the New England Patriots. The Pats beat the Browns in their first meeting 27-17 in Week 3. Things started off the same way in this one when Stephen Gostkowski hit a 40 yard field goal to make it 3-0 New England. JaMarcus Russell, who watched last season as Jerry Galasinki marched his way to Super Bowl III, hit Claude Diron for a 6 yard touchdown to make it 7-3 Cleveland. The Patriots got it within one when Gostkowski hit a 28 yard field goal to make it 7-6. Brian Brohm then completed a 13 yard touchdown pass to make it 13-7 New England. That was the score after 3 quarters. The 4th quarter however was all Cleveland. The defending champs first finished off a late 3rd quarter drive with a 3 yard pass from Russell to Ralph Baretto to make it 14-13 Cleveland. The Patriots got the ball back right after it. Brohm drove the Patriots down to the Cleveland 31. The drive stalled. Stephen Gostkowski had a chance to put the Pats back in the lead but Stephen Gostkowski missed wide left on a 48 yard field goal. The Browns took advantage of the mistake as they drove down the field and Reggie Bush ran for a 1 yard score to make it 21-13 game. The Patriots got the ball back one last time but the Browns defense stuffed the Patriots and walked out with a 21-13 win and a date with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship game.

3/26/08 - Riding the Surging Pack - by Shakes
The Pack were not given too much of a shot in there game versus Arizona but the amazing season of Aaron Rodgers continued. However it was Eric Shelton who got things started when he poounded the ball in from 1 yard out to make it 7-0. Aaron Rodgers hooked up with Greg Jennings for a 22 yard score to tie the game at 7-7. Eric Shelton got the Cards back into the lead with a 7 yard run to make it 14-7 Arizona. Aaron Rodgers hit TE Greg Olsen to tie the game at 14. It was like that for the rest of ther 3rd quarter. Arizona got on the board first with a Neil Rackers 37 yard field goal. That made it 17-14. But Aaron Rodgers found FB Terrell Perot from 6 yards out to give the Pack their first and last lead of the game. It stood up as Jerious Norwood ended the scoring with a 2 yard TD run. That made the score 28-17 which was the final. The Pack now go on to meet the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round.

3/26/08 - Housh's your Mama - by Shakes
The Chargers worse from first earned them a home playoff game versus Cincinnatti who has been in the playoffs before. Rex Grossmans first pass in the playoff game was interecepted by Ben Taylor and returned for a 9 yard TD to give the Chargers a quick 7-0 lead. Unfourtanetly there were still 55 minutes to go. Josh Scobee got the Bengals on the baord with a 37 yard field goal. Then on the kickoff the Chargers fumbled and Rex Grossman hit TE Visanthe Shiancoe for a 29 yard TD pass to make it 10-7. Ther Chargers went back into the lead in the 2nd quarter. First Nate Kaeding hit a 48 yard field goal to make tie the game at 10 a piece. Then Brian Griese hit Antwan Randle El. The Wide Receiver did 53 yards of the 66 yards of the work to make it 17-10 San Diego. That is the way it stay at the end of the first half. In the 3rd quarter Josh Scobee hit a 43 yard field goal to close the lead to 17-13 San Diego. Rex Grossman got injured on the 1st polay of the 3rd quarter, so David Garrard took the reigns and midway through the 4th quarter, Garrard hit TJ Houshmandzadeh for a 4 yard touchdown to give the lead back to the Bengals at 20-17. The Bengals D stuffed LT as they went 3 and out. The Bengals then ran out the clock to give Cincy the win. Cincy now faces the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round while the Chargers gear up for next season.

3/26/08 - Ball Control Offense - by Shakes
The NFC comback team of the Dallas Cowboys faced a tough Carolina team for the 2nd time this year. The Panthers won the first matchup 27-9. This game was much closer and had a little more defense to it. It started off when Kurt Warner hit TE Anthony Fasano for a 9 yard score to make it 7-0 Dallas. But just like the first game, Carolina won the TOP and Herb Foley hit a 39 yard field goal to make it 7-3. On Carolinas next possession, Jake Delhomme hit Steve Smith for a 16 yard score to give the Panthers a 10-7 lead. Herb Foley hit his 2nd field goal to make it 13-7 Carolina. The Dallas Cowboys retook the lead when Kurt Warner hit Jason Witten for a 3 yard touchdown. That made it 14-13 Dallas. In the 4th quarter though, Carolina put it away. First Herb Foley got a 43 yard field goal to give them the lead at 16-13. Then Keary Colbert sealed the deal when Jake Delhomme hit him for a 37 yard touchdown to finish the game at 23-14. Carolina now goes to St Louis for their divisional matchup.
